Facilities and accessibility improved in multiple libraries following summer refurbishment works
14 October 2025
The Institute of Education (IOE) Library and Science Library have re-opened with improved study facilities following refurbishments, and improvements have been made to numerous other libraries across campus.
Following refurbishment works this summer, 308 new study spaces have been added across UCL’s campus, providing a variety of environments to suit the needs of students.
Among the additional study spaces are height adjustable study desks and bookable pods, including accessible pods, which are suitable for online meetings. We have also updated numerous desks and chairs across our library spaces and have redecorated some areas.
The IOE Library and the Science Library underwent the most extensive refurbishments. At the IOE Library, seven new bookable pods, including one accessible pod, have been added. The layout has been reconfigured and furniture replaced. In the Science Library the ground floor layout has been modified, and a postgraduate study space and social study space have been added. New desks have been installed, and chairs have been reupholstered or replaced.
New bookable pods have also been installed in the Student Centre and upgrades have been made to the canteen. Height adjustable desks have been installed in the Student Centre and the Institute of Archaeology Library, and improvements to accessibility have been made in the Student Centre, UCL East Library, and the Main Library.
In line with UCL’s sustainability goals, where possible we have modified or refreshed existing furniture, rather than replacing it.
These refurbishment works reflect UCL’s commitment to continuously improving our facilities and creating a better environment for our students and staff. We would like to extend our thanks for your patience and understanding while the works took place.
