Alternative study spaces during UCL200 building works
20 March 2025
Following the UCL Estates notice of increased noise in the Wilkins Building from 24 March 2025, we have pulled together a range of resources to help students looking for quieter spaces.

Building noise
Due to the updated UCL200 building works timetable, the Main Library will be impacted by medium to high noise levels from 24 March 2025 until the end of the academic year.
Library opening hours will remain the same, and acoustic blankets will be in place to reduce impact. Library users are however likely to experience higher than usual noise levels in the Main Library.
Students may wish to consider alternative study spaces during construction site working hours (details below) during the spring.
Here are our recommendations for studying during this period.
Recommendations
Hours
If you are able to, consider studying in the Main Library outside of construction site working hours which are 8am-6pm Monday to Friday, and 8am-1pm Saturday. Noise levels are expected to be minimal outside these times.
Noise reduction
Earplugs are available for free from the Help Point in the Main Library - just ask a staff member on duty.
Quieter spaces
Other libraries may be less busy than the Science Library and the Student Centre. Our Find Your Favourite Library tool can help you find the library or study space for you and understand the facilities that are available. You can also check the opening hours and how many spaces are currently available.
Senate House Library free membership
Additional study space at the University of London’s Senate House Library close to Main Campus is available at no cost to UCL students. To use this space, you will need to complete the simple online registration form before visiting the Senate House Library with the relevant ID.
