Visiting our libraries from August

11 August 2021

You will still need to book study spaces and wear face coverings on campus.

Student studying, wearing a face mask

In line with Government guidance, some Covid restrictions on the UCL campus will be relaxed over the next few weeks. This will include removing restrictions on social distancing and one-way systems at most of our libraries – please bear with us while signage is removed from library spaces and other UCL buildings.

Our libraries remain open for current library members and limited visitors in specific categories, as outlined on our membership pages. You must still book study spaces and request items through the Click and Collect service. Currently there are plenty of study spaces at all times and you should be able to book a space to study on campus.

This is an interim stage and we will reduce the number of study spaces that need to be pre-booked from Monday 27 September.

Some of our libraries have Online Tours, which you might find useful to view beforehand.

Unless you are exempt, we expect everyone on campus to wear a face covering in libraries and other indoor spaces.

Please continue to be respectful and considerate of others while in the libraries and on campus, and look out for people wearing a Sunflower lanyard (for those with invisible disabilities) or taking part in the Please Give Me Space initiative (for those who feel anxious or uncomfortable about social distancing coming to an end).

Using our libraries

If you are planning on using our libraries, please remember:

  • You must stay at home if you feel unwell;
  • You are expected to bring a face covering to wear on campus in indoor spaces;
  • You should get tested for COVID-19 twice a week even if you don’t have symptoms;
  • Please report your coronavirus test results via UCL’s Connect to Protect tool;
  • You are encouraged to get vaccinated for COVID-19 and flu when you are eligible;
  • You should wash your hands frequently. Hand sanitiser is freely available on campus.

We must still work together to protect each other. Please continue to abide by the UCL Community Commitment to Protect each other and be considerate to people’s needs.

The safety of our students and staff remains the priority. We may have to make changes to our services at short notice due to restrictions required by the UK Government or UCL. Please go to the Services Updates page for the most current information.
