Create your ideal place to study
8 November 2017
Fancy a big, comfy armchair to work in with your laptop or a cosy nook for a bit of privacy? View the sample furniture on display for the next few weeks in the Students' Union and Science Library to have your say on how UCL's New Student Centre should be furnished.
The New Student Centre is currently under construction on the last piece of undeveloped land on Gordon Street, adjacent to the Bloomsbury Theatre. When complete, this flagship building will provide 1,000 new study spaces for students, and will also accommodate a café, the new Student Enquiries Centre and a Quiet Contemplation Room.
The project team is now considering how we might best furnish the building to allow UCL students to study in a range of different environments, both individually and in groups. We need your help to choose what might work best in the new building. At this early stage we are trying out ideas rather than making our final choices, but it would be great to understand what you find most comfortable and what style of furniture appeals to you.
The furniture will be on display for the next six weeks. Please do take time to try out the space and share your thoughts.
View the sample furniture:
- Science Library Café (ground floor) - café furniture options
- Science Library 4th Floor (Engineering) - social learning space furniture
- The Students' Union, 25 Gordon Street on the second floor lounge - social learning space furniture
Please also let us know what you think about the newly refurbished Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health Library, Cruciform Hub's quiet spaces and the computer clusters in the Main and Science Library.
To share your views on the furniture, complete one of the paper surveys available at the venues. Alternatively you can email library@ucl.ac.uk with any feedback.
" The new Student Centre will realise UCL's ambition to create a truly student focussed building providing an exceptional environment for informal learning together with student support services.
