The project team was: Phil Ableson, Gill Anderson, Cath Baynton, Barbara Bender, Alan Benn, Henry Broughton, Sue Hamilton, Mary Hinton, Jason Hutter, Pippa Pemberton, Chris Tilley, and Helen Wickstead. Ian Greig helped us set up. Figs 1, 4, 6 & 8-11 were drawn by Jane Russell. We are grateful to Mrs Dowton and the Commoners of Leskernick for giving us permission to undertake the project; Peter Herring, Nicholas Johnson, and Peter Rose of the Cornish Archaeological Unit gave us much support and allowed us to borrow equipment; Dave Hooley of English Heritage gave us much encouragement. He and Peter shared their knowledge of Bodmin Moor with us. The quotations in the account are taken from the personal diaries of the team, written during the project.

The notes to the survey map of Leskernick were written by Martin Fletcher. The southern stone circle was first found by the Archaeology Division of the Ordnance Survey in 1973 and published by John Barnatt (1980). The northern stone circle, and the stone row, were discovered by Peter Herring. Peter pointed out the significance of the `quoit' on the top of the hill to us, and predicted the setting sun would shine through it on the summer solstice, which we were all able to watch.

Part of this paper was presented at the Prehistoric Society Conference in Dublin in September 1995 as part of a joint paper written by Barbara Bender and Mark Edmonds on The Ritual of Daily Practice. We would like to thank Mark for his contribution and comments.
