Design properties
- Name
- Mathematic activity for kindergarten- Outdoor learning
- Topic
- Outdoor mathematics with natural and recyclable materials
- Learning time
- 30 minutes
- Designed time
- 30 minutes
- Size of class
- 14 kindergarten students, 5-6 years old
- Description
- Performing an outdoor mathematical activity by associating the number with the quantity and vice versa, comparing the weight of the objects using the scale, comparing the volume of the containers using water, making the geometric shapes with the lines drawn on the stones, ordering the natural objects by size (stones), length and width (leaves), thickness (twigs), writing of the figures on the dial of a clock with chalk on the cement
- Mode of delivery
- Classroom-based
- Aims
- - developing the ability to understand and use figures by referring to quantity and vice versa - developing mathematical abilities (comparison, joining, ordering and drawing lines) by manipulating objects from nature and recyclable materials
- Outcomes
-
- Knowledge - to recognize the figures within the range 0 to 10 and count the given objects
- Estimate - to understand the tasks received - to observe / estimate the differences between the size of the stones, the length / width of the leaves and the thickness of the branches
- Application - to sort natural objects by size (stones), by length and width (leaves) and by thickness (twigs) - to match the quantity to the given figures - to match the figure to the given quantity
- Differentiate between - to compare the weight of objects using the scale - to compare the capacity of the containers using water
- Compose - to make geometric shapes with the lines drawn on the stones
- Evaluation - to justify the choice of the figure / quantity when matching the figure with the quantity and vice versa
- Affective learning outcomes - to appreciate their own work, but also the work of their colleagues
- Psychomotor skills - to write with chalk on the cement the figures on the dial of a clock

INTRODUCTION INTO ACTIVITY
5 minutes)
-
Read Watch Listen114Subject presentation: Outdoor mathematics Title presentation: Mathematics with natural and recyclable materials Catching their attention: It is done by presenting the mathematical workshops/stations in nature and the mathematical tasks related to each workshop.
-
Discuss314The tasks of each workshop/station are presented.
-
Investigate114The kindergarten students observe and identify the materials made available in each mathematical workshop/station.
Notes:
This activity is organized in the kindergarten s yard. This stage is done using the frontal interraction form of an activity.

THE ACTIVITY PROPER
20 minutes)
-
Collaborate114The kindergarten students are assigned in freely formed pairs to workshops/stations.
-
Practice1514The kindergarten students are able: - to match the number with the quantity and vice versa, - to compare the weight of objects using the scale, - to compare the volume of containers using water, - to order natural objects by size (stones), by length / width (leaves), by thickness (twigs) - to write with chalk on cement the numbers on the dial of a clock.
-
Produce414The kindergarten students accomplish: - the geometric shapes by joining the lines drawn on stones,
Notes:
The kindergarten students work all at once, but individually solve the tasks of each workshop.
Everybody goes through all the workshops/stations.

ACTIVITY'S EVALUATION
5 minutes)
-
Discuss514Evaluation is done in each workshop/stations. All kindergarten students evaluate their own work, but also the works of their colleagues. Where there is a mistake, it is corrected with the help of colleagues and teacher. The children who worked correctly are verbally appreciated and rewarded.
Notes:
The kindergarten students evaluate their own work, but also the works of their colleagues.
