Collaborate303Break into Zoom rooms for 3; tutors will visit each room Use the Storyboard to build up a design for a few sets of Teaching and Learning Activities (TLAs) within an online course, or MOOC. Note: if the board looks too big or small you can resize using the + and - at the bottom left of the board. 5 % is good for seeing an overview and 10% is good for working close up. Instructions: Each set of TLAs should be made up of a combination of different learning types. For each activity: - Click on the arrow in the left hand menu of the board to drag one of the six learning types to a block on the grid. - Add a sticky note by clicking on the icon in the left hand menu to explain what the learners will do in the activity. - Then drag a digital method from the stack of cards on the right hand side of the board to show how this will be achieved. - Finally estimate the time to be spent on each learning type and write it on the grid next to the clock icon. Continue with more learning types until the set of TLAs is complete.
-
Discuss1030Plenary discussion in Zoom main room on this approach to learning design. Discussion of issues arising
-
Produce103Finalise the design. The tutors will transfer your design to LDer during the break

Investigate181Click on this link: https://v.gd/95a7kZ - it will take you to the Learning Designer tool and to the World Book Day design you saw on the video. To explore the tool for yourself: Click on the Browser tab at the top, and in the Browser you will see sections of different kinds of designs. Click on My Designs, under Personal Space, and you will see it listed. This is now stored as one of your own designs, which you can browse through and edit, and save, as you wish. Click on the Designer tab again, and 'Turn editing on' st the right hand side. Try changing the text, or adding a TLA, adding a learning type - choose one. Fill in the duration in minutes and the group size for the activity, and see the effect on the pie chart and designed learning time, at the top of the screen. You can also check the Analysis of this learning experience - at the top left of the screen, click on Analysis. This screen shows you all the different ways of analysing the learner's experience, as designed. Note any questions or problems to raise in the next live session.

WEBINAR 2: Synchronous, online, editing your design in LDer, intro to MOOCs - explore the Teaching Online MOOCs and wrap-up
70 minutes)
-
Read Watch Listen530Watch the demo of how to find your initial learning design on the LDer site. You will then be assigned to your group's Room.
-
Practice2030In your group, choose one member of your group to share their screen of the LDer so that you can work together to continue designing it. Use the features of the LDer to continue developing the learning design of your activity. - Check the actual Designed Learning time (at the top) against your planned learning time, - Check the pie-chart - do you have an appropriate combination of learning types? It is important to design in active learning (not just learning through acquisition, or Read, Watch, Listen), Apart from that, there are no rules, it is your judgement). - Check the Analysis screen, which shows you the results for your design in terms of different aspects of the learning experience. - Check that you have the right time, group size, teacher presence/absence, and online/offline choice for each learning type. If you need the tutor, please use Raise Hand. The tutors will visit each Room in turn. Note any questions you have for the next discussion.
-
Discuss1030Plenary to discuss impressions of LDer
-
Produce103Finalise your design The lead person in each group should Save and Export as .ldj and as Word to save in your own filespace. Then click Share to generate a link to the design, and email the link to the other members. They can then Export the design to the .ldj code, and to the Word version for their own files.
-
Produce2030Please complete the feedback form. How should we build on this workshop: 1. How useful was this approach to redesigning your course? 2. What was effective, why? 3. What more would you like to have done? 4. How might you make use of this in your future teaching? 5. What more support would you like to have to take it further?
-
Read Watch Listen51Thank you very much for your feedback. As part of the research we would like to look at your designs, and even ask your permission to quote from them - it doesn't matter if they are not complete. If you can do this, please email the .ldj file to eileen.kennedy@ucl.ac.uk. Please complete and sign the Consent Form and let us know if you have any questions. Thank you very much for your participation throughout the course.
