Abridge Road, Theydon Bois (Essex)
Grade II listed. Late 18th century "small mansion", inherited by Robert Westley Hall-Dare I (through his wife Elizabeth Grafton Dare). "Their son and successor, Robert Westley Hall Dare [II], in 1853 obtained a private Act of Parliament authorizing the sale of parts of his estate, in order that he might settle in Ireland, his wife's country." Theydon Bois, however, remained in the family. Robert Westley Hall Dare IV (1866-1939) sold Theydon Bois to Gerald Buxton in 1901.

"Free quadroon woman" and mother of eleven children; independently wealthy, perhaps through legacies left her by her partners James Tierney (died 1784) and Ebenezer Robertson (died 1825).
