1791 - 1856

Claimant or beneficiary

Partner with Alex. Dalrymple in Alex. Dalrymple & Co., resident at the time of compensation but in London at the time of his death in 1856.

  1. Death of Frederick Harvey [sic.] Garraway registered in Marylebone Q3 1856 (the underlying record shows a mistranscription for Hervey). Burial at Kensal Green All Souls of Frederick Henry [sic] Garraway aged 65 of 11 Marlborough Street St Johns Wood on 08/07/1856 (and on the same day the removal for reinterment from Streatham of Mary Jane Garraway, presumably his wife): again, the underlying image is clearly Frederick Hervey Garraway.

  2. Under the will of Frederick Hervey Garraway gentleman of [Marlborough Place] Marylebone proved 13/08/1856, he left to his sister Mrs Catherine Scott residing at Belfast the income on 12 shares in the Belfast Banking Company for her life, with at her decease the shares passing to her four daughters, Garraway's nieces. He left the children of Mr Robert Gordon of Dominica 1000 dollars that he [Gordon] owed to Garraway on bond. Garraway had, he said, made provision for his wife and daughter in a deed of 20/09/1855, and he accordingly left the remainder of his estate to his sons Frederick and George Garraway, both residing at Boundary Road in Hampstead and carrying on business with their father as merchants at Crosby Square in the City. The brothers continued in business until 1863: George Garraway was bankrupt in 1866.
