Biography

Dublin and Antigua merchant, the father of John Elliott Hyndman, Thomas Warwick Hyndman, Warwick Person Hyndman and Robert Augustus Hyndman (1807-1896) (each of whom q.v.), and the Dublin merchant declared bankrupt with John Elliott Hyndman in 1831. Possibly also the cousin of Robert Augustus Hyndman the father of John Beckles Hyndman (q.v.). Claimed as owner-in-fee of Antigua No. 95 (Bendals) and 390 (Matthews Constitution Hill).  Counterclaims included his assignee in bankruptcy John Jameson (q.v.).

  1. Robert Hyndman, merchant of Antigua and Dublin, married Catherine Elliot 02/02/1787 in St John, Antigua. Robert’s daughter Ann and his wife Catherine were left £500 and £50 respectively in the will of Charles McComb of St John’s Town, master mariner, dated 18/11/1810 (Robert Hyndman and Thomas Hyndman were two of the executors of the will). Patrick Kirwan of Antigua in his will dated 14/11/1816 left £1000 to Mrs. Hyndman, wife of Robert Hyndman of Dublin, Esq. In 1804 Warwick Pearson and Robert Hyndman of Antigua were merchants and co-partners.

  2. On the 29th ult. [Feb. 1844] Death at his residence Belvidere House [sic] Dublin in the 81st year of his age, Robert Hyndman Esq., formerly of the island of Antigua.
