Biography

London West India merchant, partner in Fullarton, M'Donald.

  1. Son of Rev. John Fullarton & Helen Donald and brother of John Fullarton (1781-1842). Gavin Fullarton's niece, Helen Donald Fullarton (John's daughter with his second wife Ann Richardson) married Francis Edward James son of Sir John Kingston James bart., merchant of Kerelaw and Dublin, their son G.F. [Gavin Fullarton, later bart.] James, a barrister, inherited Kerelaw. 

  2. Alexander Hamilton built house at Kerila some time before 1790. Gavin Fullarton returned from Demerara, bought Kerelaw House 1838. Memorial to Gavin Fullarton of Kerelaw 'universally loved and regretted', from his niece. 

  3. In 1851 Gavin Fullarton was living aged 62 at Kerelaw House, West India merchant, with his nephew Gavin Fullarton junior, aged 39, born Guiana, also a West India merchant. Thereafter Gavin Fullarton junior appears with his wife Christina at Helenburgh, Row, Dumbartonshire until his death in 1894.

  4. Gavin Fullarton died 28/08/1876 at Kerelaw leaving £9038 13s 8d.
