Biography

Executor and trustee of John Blagrove (q.v.), together with James Bradshaw (his nephew) and Hugh Parkin (both of whom q.v.), with whom he was awarded compensation for 5 estates in Jamaica.

  1. Son of Thomas Bradshaw (1733-1774, politician in the government of the Duke of Grafton) and Elizabeth Wilson, from whom he inherited property in Yarmouth. He appears to have had various state appointments (see below) and appears in a number of instances unrelated to slavery as an executor or trustee in The National Archives. In 1841 he was living at Wintney House, Hartley Wintney in Hampshire with a couple (Oswald and Maria Mosley), all 3 described as 'Independent'. In 1851 he was a visitor at the Star & Garter home in Petersham, when he was described as 'Paymaster General Office Superan[nuitan]t born in Middlesex aged 81. Burial of Augustus Hill Bradshaw All Souls Kensal Green aged 82 on 19/12/1851. Will of Augustus Hill Bradshaw of 27 Charles Street St James proved 07/01/1852.

  2. A.H. Bradshaw appears as surveyor-general of the revenues in America with a stipend of £250 p.a., and Lawrence and Augustus Hill Bradshaw appear with an undescribed salary of £200 p.a., in the 1819 Extraordinary Red Book (1819)
