Biography

Awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Marchfield on Barbados and for one other enslaved person again on Barbados.

  1. In 1841 Nathan Lewis Young physician aged 50 was living at 'Marchfield', Wokingham with his wife Marianne Charlotte aged 45. Will of Nathan Lewis Young formerly of Barbados but late of Warrior Square St Leonards-on-Sea Sussex who died 10/07/1866 proved 10/08/1866 by Elizabeth Young the widow, effects in England under £8000.

  2. Memorial inscription in St Philip, Barbados: In memory of Nathan Young for many years a practitioner of medicine in this parish; he died in 1754, aged 54 years. And of his son Nathan Lewis Young for many years also a practitioner of medicine in his parish; he died 28th February 1771, aged 37 years. And of his wife Mary Young who died 10th March 1809, aged 74 years. And of their son Lewis Young who was highly esteemed for his probity and valued for the zeal and knowledge he displayed in his practise of the medical profession for 30 years in this parish also. He died 5th April 1817, aged 52 years. And of his wife Elizabeth Young who died 25th February 1816, aged 42 years. And also of Astley Ann Cooper young who died 6th December 1858 [sic], aged 18 months. And of Marianne Charlotte Young who died 6th December 1858 aged 68 years, the child and wife of Nathan Lewis Young by who this tablet is erected 1863.

  3. Nathan Lewis Young had married Marianne Charlotte Cooper at Yarmouth 15/08/1817 and Elizabeth Hare 31/12/1861.
