Patrick Blair

Claimant for a moity of Sevilla estate in Trinidad as trustee under the will of Robert Montgomerie (q.v.).

1. Given that Robert Montgomerie was originally from Irvine in Ayrshire, it seems likely that his trustee is the Patrick Blair who was a writer in Irvine between 1826 and 1873. If so, then he was born c. 1796 in Irvine, Ayrshire, to John Blair, a Wright, and his wife Elizabeth née G[?]y. In the censuses from 1841 to 1871 he was living on the High Street, Irvine, with his wife John [sic] Fairrie Blair (born c. 1803) and other members of his family. At least 10 children were born to Patrick Blair and John Fairrie Blair in Irvine: Jane Fairrie (1824), John (1826), Elizabeth Boyle (1828), Patrick (1830), James Fairrie (1831), Janet Shaw (1833), Eleanora (1835), David (1837), Agnes Fairrie (1839) and Margaret Anne Shaw Macfie (1842). Patrick Blair, writer in Irvine, was a founder member of the Irvine Burns Society in 1826.

2. Patrick and John Fairrie Blair's daughter Elizabeth Boyle Blair (1828-) married George Stevenson Buchanan and their daughter was Margaret Johnstone Marshall Buchanan (1855-1936). Margaret married a UCL Professor of Chemistry, William Ramsay (1852-1916).
