Biography

London banker in Whitmore, Wells (q.v.), awarded with his partners (including Edward Whitmore, q.v.) the compensation under four awards in Trinidad as mortgagees of Andrew Mackintosh and three other smaller awards on the same island, and awarded with Frederick Whitmore and George Leake (possibly as trustees) one award in Jamaica. The banking firm of Whitmore Wells failed in 1841.

  1. It was almost certainly this Frederick Whitmore who from the 1840s onwards was serving as official assignee in Birmingham. In 1851 Frederick Whitmore born aged 60 was living at Wellington Street Edgbaston; in 1861 he was living as a lodger at Hopley [sp?] Street Edgbaston, in both cases described as Official Assignee and with his wife Jane, aged 45 and 55 respectively, born Hampshire. Will of Frederick Whitmore formerly of Birmingham but late of Driffold House Sutton Coldfield widower, one of the Official Assignees of the Court of Bankruptcy in Birmingham who died 28/09/1871 proved 15/12/1871 by Joseph Williams Whitmore of Sundridge near Sevenoaks, nephew, effects under £1500. Joseph Williams Whitmore was the son of Robert Whitmore and was born St George's Bloomsbury c. 1824. Genealogical sources show each of Robert, Edward and Frederick Whitmore as the sons of John Whitmore of Epsom Surrey (1750-1826) and Caroline Williams.
