Biography

A London barrister, awarded part of the compensation for Provost's Rock River in Clarendon Jamaica with Capt W Thomas (q.v.). The two men are described as owners-in-fee, and although in the case of Whitmarsh at least it appears plausible that he was instead a trustee, naming practices in his family suggest a family link to the estate. A further award for the estate was a made to a group of women surnamed Thomas, presumably sisters: the estate had been shown against the name of Hampson P. Thomas or Hampson Provost [sic] Thomas.

  1. Col. Hampson Prevost Thomas died at Soleure Switzerland, late of Royal Waggon Train .25/11/1834. His will was not proved until 16/05/1851.

  4.  Francis Whitmarsh Esq., a widower posted a bond of marriage with Caroline Winston Scott 15/05/1817 at St Marylebone. Hampson Whitmarsh (and at least wo of his sisters) were therefore the children of Francis Whitmarsh's first marriage. He had married Amelia Powell spinster at St Marylebone 15/12/1803 (when one of the witnesses appeared to be Wm Thomas).
