Biography

Awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on Fountain and Kearton's estates on St Vincent. Born Henry Lindow Rawlinson, son of Henry Rawlinson, assumed the surname Lindow in 1792 after inheriting the property of his uncle William Lindow (q.v.).

  1. Son of Henry (Rawlinson) of Liverpool arm., matriculated Christ Church Oxford 18/4/1795 aged 17, of Lower Slaughter Gloucs, assumed name of Lindon [sic] in lieu of Rawlinson 1792, died 1847 [sic].  Married Charlotte Elizabeth Barnard 30/8/1819 in Suffolk; Burial of Henry Lindow Lindow of Lower Slaughter, Stow-in-the-Wold, Gloucestershire aged 71 at All Souls Kensal Green 30/11/1848.

  2. The announcement of Henry Lindow Rawlinson's change of name identifies both Henry Rawlinson and William Lindow as of Lancaster.

  3. Will of Henry Lindow Lindow of Lower Slaughter Gloucestershire proved 22/02/1849. Under the will he left his estate in trust for his wife for life and then to be divided equally between his three children, Henry William, Charles Thomas and Louisa Elizabeth. Charles Thomas Lindow left £11,000 in 1864; William Lindow became a stockbroker and died in 1887 leaving approximately £18,000; Louisa Elizabeth Lindow married at St John's Paddington 06/12/1856 Charles Paget Fitzhardinge Berkeley, later 3rd Baron Fitzhardinge of Bristol.
