'Of London', Awarded the compensation for Lancewood Pen in St Elizabeth as owner.

Not definitively identified, but likely to be Rev. Henry Brookes or Brooks Forster or Foster (1808-1890), the son of Captain Henry Foster (1784-1816) and nephew of George Foster (q.v.): although this is speculative, it fits with the decease of Henry Forster senior before 1817 and the guardianship by George Foster of Henry Forster until c. 1830 shown in the slave registers.

  1. Henry Brookes Forster: Adm. pens. at CORPUS CHRISTI, Mar. 31, 1829. Of Middlesex. [Eldest s. of Capt. Henry, of the 23rd Regt. B. Sept. 21, 1808.] Matric. Michs. 1829; B.A. 1833; M.A. 1836. Ord. deacon (Gloucester) Dec. 20, 1834; priest, Dec. 20, 1835; C. of Duntisbourne Abbots, Gloucs., 1834-6. C. of Northchurch, Herts., 1836-40. C. of Stratton, Gloucs., 1840-1. R. of Coln-Rogers, 1841-79. Hon. Canon of Gloucester Cathedral, 1856. Married Ellen, dau. of Admiral Sir Michael Seymour. Lived latterly at Upton Lodge, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon., where he died Sept. 23, 1890, aged 82. Brother of John (1829). (Clergy List; Crockford (Henry Brooks or Brook); Burke, L.G.; Scott, MSS.; The Guardian, Oct. 1, 1890.)

T71/870 St Elizabeth claim no. 518, which identifies him as 'London'. Lancewood appeared first in 1816 against Henry Foster; in 1821 it was shown against Henry Forster and in successive years against Henry Foster until in 1828 it was shown against 'heirs of Henry Foster'. Throughout this period men with the surname Foster are shown against other estates in St Elizabeth, e.g. Bogue, Jamaica Almanacs 1816-1828. William Morrice, the London merchant who vouched for Henry Forster at the National Debt Office, was a trustee under the award for Bogue (T71/870 St Elizabeth No. 348A&B).
