Biography

Awarded the compensation for Newfound[land] River in Hanover Jamaica with her son Spencer Lambert Hunter Vassall.

  1. Baptism of Spencer Lambert Hunter Vassall, son of Spencer Thos. Vassall and Catherine Vassall 20/06/1799 at St Marylebone. Lt-Col. Spencer Thomas Vassall 'so gloriously fell in leading the British troops to the storm of Monte Video A.D. 1807'. Catherine was the daughter and co-heiress of the late Rev. D. Evans DD sometime a chaplain to King George III and rector of West Tilbury Essex. Spencer Thomas Vassall was the son of the loyalist John Vassall of Boston (from a Jamaican family) who returned to Britain and lived at Charles Lodge Wiltshire. Catherine Vassall erected a monument to Spencer Thomas Vassall in St Paul's Church Bristol.

  2. Catherine Brandreth Blackhouse Vassall married Thomas Chetham Strode at Clifton 11/07/1816. Death of Catherine Chetham Strode Q2 1842 Lymington Hampshire. Will of Catherina [sic] Brandreth Backhouse Chetham Strode, widow of Milford Villa near Lymington, proved 14/09/1842. Thomas Chetham Strode had died intestate in 1827.
