London merchant, partner with Andrew Thom[p]son, Thomson Bonar and John Thomson, and Governor of the Bank of England 1785-87. George Peters was reportedly a creditor of Israel Wilkes (q.v.) (in partnership with the De Ponthieu family) and instrumental in bringing John Julius Angerstein (q.v.) into the trusteeship of the De Ponthieu estates in Grenada.
Anthony Twist, 'Widening circles in finance, philanthropy and the arts: a study of the life of John Julius Angerstein, 1735-1823' (Phd Thesis, University of Amsterdam, 2002); Peters was almost certainly a creditor of the partnership of the De Ponthieus and Wilkes that failed c. 1768, London Gazette 11416 21 December 1773 p.2.

Member of the Baillie of Dochfour family who had numerous mercantile connections in the West Indies. The compensation for Baillie's Bacolet in Grenada was awarded to the trustees of her marriage settlement. Grand-daughter of Colin Roy Campbell of Glenmure. Apparently a victim of the quack doctor John St John Lang of Harley Street in 1830.

A cover note outlining the contents of the document.
