Thomas Pennington or Penington of Bristol

???? - 1780

Biography

Two Thomas Pennington or Peningtons died in short succession in Bristol in 1780. The older man was the partner of Abraham Biggs, and probably the same man as the slave-trader of the 1730s and 1740s, and died in 1780 intestate. The will of his son Thomas Penington [sic] merchant of Bristol was proved 12/01/1781 and made Abraham Biggs his executor and residuary legatee. The elder Thomas Pennington and Abraham Biggs were mortgagees (allegedly unknown to themselves, in fact the second mortgagees) of Rose Hering May I (q.v.) of Cherry Garden and Gymaballs in St Dorothy Jamaica, to whom Pennington and Biggs lent £6000 in 1775.
