Thomas Pewtress of Northampton

???? - 1814

Biography

Thomas Pewtress of Northampton was among a group of 16 annuitants created in 1775 when each purchased an annuity from Jacob Kladen (q.v.) secured on Kladen's St Vincent property, including named enslaved people, to raise £11,000. Pewtress purchased an annuity of £50 p.a., in line with almost all the other subscribers, for the lives of his son Benjamin Bennett Pewtress aged 19 and his daughter Elizabeth Pewtress aged 15.

  1. Will of Thomas Pewtress gentleman of Northampton proved 01/03/1814. In the will he left to his son John Barber Pewtress the annuity of £62 10s on the lives of John Barber Pewtress and his [John Barber Pewtress'] deceased brother that he [the testator] held from Matthew Christian of Antigua. The will makes no mention of the annuity on the St Vincent property, probably because the children of Thomas Pewtress for whose lives he was granted the annuity had predeceased him.
