Biography

  1. Phillipp Wheeler, son of Phillipp and Elizabeth Wheeler, baptised in St Catherine, Jamaica, 07/12/1704. Other children baptised in St Catherine to the same parents: Mary (1710), Herce (1712) and Thomas (1714).

  2. Philip Wheeler senior owned Plantain Garden River estate in 1725. Member of Assembly for St Catherine 1721, St Thomas-in-the-East 1722 and 1727, and St Dorothy in 1727 and 1728. Philip Wheeler junior was Member of Assembly for St Thomas-in-the-East in 1734 but it's not clear whether or not he inherited Plantain Garden River. Both their estates were probated in the same year. It's not clear who died first. Philip Wheeler (not clear which one) was buried in St Catherine, 08/08/1737.

  3. Philip Wheeler, jr of St Catherine, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1738. Slave-ownership at probate: 119 of whom 66 were listed as male and 53 as female. 28 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £4397.29 Jamaican currency of which £2875 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £206 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £48.75 currency plate.

  4. Philip Wheeler, senior of St Catherine, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1738. Slave-ownership at probate: 174 of whom 95 were listed as male and 79 as female. 46 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £6218.58 Jamaican currency of which £4350 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £585.07 currency debts and £128.16 currency plate.
