William Urquhart of Craigston (1741-1796)

Biography

Eldest son of Captain John Urqhart of Craigston (1696-1756) and his wife Jean Urquhart of Meldrum (1720-1757). Closely involved in the fortunes of his brother John "Jock" Urquhart, who purchased Craigston and later Meldrum estates in Carriacou with funding from William. Inherited both Carriacou estates on the death of Jock in 1785.

Letters to William Urqhart concerning the running of the Carriacou estates and other family affairs are held in the archives at Craigston Castle in Abderdeenshire.
