William Salmon

Biography

Slave-owner in Jamaica. Probably partner with his brother Thomas Stokes Salmon of St Elizabeth in the slave-factoring business under Thomas Salmon and William Salmon & Co.

  1. William, son of John and Ann Salmon, born 01/08/1743 in Thornbury, Gloucestershire. No date of baptism is given, though the preceeding entry was for 09/12/1743.

  2. Will of William Salmon of St Elizabeth proved 03/07/1795. He provided for an extensive outside family with Mary Vassall. He left his moiety in the Crawle to his brother Brice Webb Salmon for life and then to his nephews John and George (the sons of Brice Webb Salmon). [This estate under the name of the Crawle has not yet been traced by LBS].

  3. There is a memorial to William Salmon in St Mary the Virgin Church in Thornbury, giving his mother's name as Anne nee Stokes and his death 15/08/1794 "at sea".
