Biography

Merchant of Greenock and then of Jamaica, dying between 1813 and 1815. Heather Frances James, using the Papers of the Malcolm family of Poltalloch, shows him as bankrupt in 1804.

Administration of the will of Dugald Malcolm Ruthven of [The Cottage] Trelawney [made in 1809 with a codicil of 1813 and attested in Jamaica in 1815] was granted 21/09/1831 to Anna Rebecca Anderson, wife of Samuel Anderson. She was Ruthven's daughter and co-heiress with her three brothers subject to the life interest of their mother Mary.

'Donald Ruthven had died by this time [1803] and their younger son Dugald Malcolm Ruthven, a ‘merchant in Greenock’ was in Jamaica, presumably involved in the family plantation business (No 15.
