Biography

Apparently unsuccessful claimant with Edward Whitmore (q.v.) as assignees of a mortgage for £7500 on the Harrow estate in Barbados, when he was given as of Auction Mart. Probably son of John Whitmore MP and Governor of the Bank of England (1750-1826) and brother of Frederick and Edward Whitmore (each of whom q.v.).

  1. John Whitmore of Auction Mart and Clapham Common subscribed £7000 to the London & Brighton Railway in 1837. The will of John Whitmore of Clapham Common (made in 1839) was proved 07/06/1842: the will is very simple and made his wife Maria universal legatee and executrix. Maria Whitmore of Clapham died in 1862 leaving £25,000.
