Francis McDermot

Owner of 100 enslaved people and 70 stock in St Ann, Jamaica, in 1792.

Deceased by 1806 when Whitehall in St Ann was owned by the heirs of Frances McDermot Esquire in the Accounts Produce.

Francis McDermot married Mary Coward, widow, in St Catherine 05/03/1772. Charles, son of Francis McDermot and his wife Mary was born 26/02/1776 and baptised 17/09/1776 in St Ann. Whitehall was registered to George Fletcher Coward as receiver in the almanac for 1815. He was subsequently listed against Whitehall until 1828, presumably as owner but possibly as receiver. Whitehall was registered to Charles McDermot in the almanac for 1809. This may be Charles McDermot of St Ann (q.v.) who died before 1803, but seems more likely to be Charles son of Francis, who would have been younger than the Charles McDermot of St Ann whose children were granted the rights of white people in 1791.
