Biography

  1. The will of Benjamin Bravo, made in 1742, leaves a bequest to his relation Rebecca Henriques, wife of Jacob Henriques of St Catherine and daughter of David Bravo of Kingston, merchant. "Item I give and bequeath unto Rebecca Henriques Wife of Jacob Henriques of the Parish of Saint Catherine Planter Daughter of the said David Bravo my Silver Stand of Cruitts" (David Bravo is named elsewhere in the will as "my loving kinsman" and appointed executor of Benjamin Bravo's will; his son Moses Bravo is described as Benjamin's "Godson").

  2. Jacob Henriques was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 221 acres of land in St Catherine, 550 acres in St John and 200 acres in St Thomas-in-the-Vale, total 971 acres.

  3. Jacob Henriques of St Catherine, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1761. Slave-ownership at probate: 190 of whom 108 were listed as male and 82 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £9224.31 Jamaican currency of which £5145.3 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £651.14 currency debts and £11 currency plate.
