Biography

Owner of Golden Grove and Cherry Garden estates in St George, Jamaica. Died c. 1738.

Thomas Dwarris of St George, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1739. Slave-ownership at probate: 143 of whom 92 were listed as male and 51 as female. 24 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £8499.74 Jamaican currency of which £3555.5 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £138.42 currency debts and £5 currency plate.

Thomas D'warris was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 1073 acres of land in Portland and 653 acres of land in St George, total 1726 acres. Note this would have been his late-owned property. D'warris and Company were listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owners of 60 acres of land in St Catherine and 982 acres of land in St George, total 1042 acres.
