Solomon Bouffatt or Bouffan or Bousson

???? - 1750

Biography

Some uncertainty over the surname of this man.

Solomon Bouffatt [sic] was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 215 acres of land in St Catherine.

The recovery of "Quamina, a creole, formerly the property of Solomon Buffet [sic] of Salt Ponds" was sought by James Ramadge in an advertisement in the Weekly Jamaica Courant, 10/05/1754.

Solomon Bouffan was buried in St Catherine, Jamaica, 26/03/1750. An Elizabeth Bouffan (possibly his widow) marred Alex. Delap in St Catherine 08/01/1751 (both of St Catherine, marital status unspecified).

Solomon Bousson of St Catherine, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1751. Slave-ownership at probate: 58 of whom 26 were listed as male and 32 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £3037.03 Jamaican currency of which £2125 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £133.68 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £0 currency plate.

Possibly related to Stephen Peter Godwin (q.v.) who inherited a pen in St Catherine on the death of the tenant-for-life, Elizabeth Bouffan in 1784.
