Biography

The estate of Giles Diston was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 599 acres of land in St Andrew and 1100 acres of land in St Elizabeth, total 1699 acres.

Thomas Bernard and Giles Diston were listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owners of 1027 acres of land in St Thomas-in-the-East (assumed to be Buckingham sugar estate).

Giles Diston of Kingston, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1733. Slave-ownership at probate: 260 of whom 154 were listed as male and 106 as female. 87 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £10714.51 Jamaican currency of which £7437 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0.18 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £83.46 currency plate.

The will of Giles Diston was proved in Jamaica in 1731.

Estate of Giles Diston late of Kingston Jamaica Esq. deceased. Account filed by John Harris as attorney for William Diston and Rowland Lacy of the county of Oxford in Great Britain Esqs. and residuary devisees of the said Giles Distan. For a particular account of the produce of the estate the account of Richard Diston of Kingston merchant surviving executor of the deceased should be referred to. No produce received since 29/09/1738.
