Biography

Son of Joseph Milward senior and joint heir with brothers Joseph junior and Thomas of his father's property in Jamaica.

John Milward was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 20 acres of land in St Catherine and 400 acres of land in St Thomas-in-the-Vale, total 420 acres.

Joseph Millward of St Catherine, gentleman. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1757. Slave-ownership at probate: 119 of whom 62 were listed as male and 57 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £12736.67 Jamaican currency of which £4200.6 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £5.77 currency cash, £5672.62 currency debts and £394.63 currency plate.
