David Mill former Governor of Cape Coast Castle

Biography

  1. Born 1743, son of Captain James Mill (or Milne) of Old Montrose, Dysart and Lauriston (1708-1783) and his wife Elizabeth nee Scott. Died 1777 in Antigua.

  2. Will of David Mill or Mills late Governor of Cape Coast Castle in Africa but now of Antigua proved 14/08/1777. Under the will he desired that 'all the free back men I brought with me' be returned to their own country at the expense of his estate. He left £200 to a mulatto man named John Hippesly then in Great Britain and £200 to Mary Burke daughter of Walter Burke of Antigua. The rest of his estate he left to his brother Hercules Mills [sic].
