  1. The will of Thomas Mead of the island of Jamaica, planter, now residing in England at Saffron Waldon was proved in London 06/02/1781.

  2. Thomas Mead of Trelawney, planter. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1782. Slave-ownership at probate: 15 of whom 7 were listed as male and 8 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £1703 Jamaican currency of which £677.5 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £0 currency cash, £0 currency debts and £0 currency plate.

  3. Presumed to be the Thomas Mead who was overseer of Temple Hall estate in St Andrew, Jamaica, from at least 1765 to 1774.

Thomas Mead of the Island of Jamaica, planter, now residing in England at Saffron Walden in the county of Essex.

Concerning all my real and personal estate and effects in the Western Indies and in England and elsewhere "of which I have by the blessing of God".

James Boyton[?] of Portland, William Wright of Portland and Arthur King of St Andrew, Jamaica, planters, to be executors for all my real and personal estate, effects, debts and credits in Jamaica and out of England. To them all my houses, offices, grounds, heriditaments in Jamaica and all my stock of negroes, mules, effects, goods chattels, moveables, stock and personal estate in Jamaica upon trust, to be sold within 12 months of my decease.

To my niece Sarah, one of the daughters of my sister Elizabeth Pigram of Rickling in Essex, now residing in my plantations in Jamaica, £200 sterling.

To each of my trustees James Boyton, William Wright and Arthur King £20 stirling to buy mourning for me.

All other monies from the sale of my effects in Jamaica to be remitted to my executors in England.

To my two nieces Ann and Hannah Catlin, daughters of my sister Ann, the wife of Nathaniel Catlin of Saffron Walden £500 sterling each.

To Martin and Robert Catlin, two of the sons of my sister Ann Catlin, £300 sterling each.

To Thomas, the other son of my sister Ann Catlin £500 sterling.

To my sister Elizabeth, wife of Richard Pigram of Rickling, an annuity of £20 per annum for life.

My brother-in-law Nathaniel Catlin and my sister Ann Catkin to receive the residue after payment of legacies and debts.

Nathaniel Catlin and his son Martin Catlin to be my executors in England.

Should my residuary legatees receive less than £500 in the terms of my will, then my legatees to abate proportionately of his or her share so that the residuary legatees shall receive £500.
