Biography

London merchant, in partnership with Jacob Wilkinson (q.v.) at Abchurch Lane.

  1. Adm. pens. (age 17) at TRINITY, Feb. 4, 1758. S. of Samuel, of Jamaica [whose will, 1788, is mentioned in Caribbeana, II. 174]. School, Tonbridge (Mr Cawthorn). Matric. Lent, 1758; B.A. 1762. Fellow of Peterhouse, 1764; M.A. 1765. Of Abchurch Lane, London. Died 1783. (Tonbridge Sch. Reg.; T. A. Walker, 325.)

  2. Will of Samuel Wilkinson Gordon of Abchurch Lane proved 31/07/1783. In the will he left 10 guineas each to his nephews and nieces Thomas, Cecilia, Margaret John and Robert Hibbert, saying that it was unnecessary to make further provision from his own small fortune they being amply provided for and their mother being 'the only child that received a fortune from my father.' He left his property in trust to secure an annuity of £60 p.a for his sister Frances with the residue to his sister Sarah Cosens, wife of John Cosens.
