Biography

This is almost certainly James Clark or Clarke of Kingston Surrey [Jamaica] [but at Liverpool] whose will was proved in London in a double probate 28/07/1818 and 01/03/1819: administration of the will was then granted 20/05/1829 to James Deans Clark the son. Under the will, made in 1816, James Clark had left his [unspecified] estate to be shared equally between his two sisters Mary Jane Wood (wife of Major General John Wood of the British Army) and Sarah Clark of the Isle of Man and his children Ann Deans Clark and James Deans Clark.

  1. 'Clark, James of Kingston Jamaica who died at Liverpool in 1816' appeared in a list of debts to be proved in 1824.

  2. James Deans Clark was discharged from debtors' prison in London 26/10/1829, and was buried at Bexleyheath in 1869 aged 75.
