Jeremiah Barton

???? - 1792

Biography

Shown as 'J. Barton' in the Accounts Produce which gives him as previous owner in 1793, but reasonably inferrable as the resident slave-owner Jeremiah Barton who died in 1792. However, the path to ownership is not clear: John Barton, the father of Nathaniel Barton MP (q.v.), was the brother-in-law of Zachary Bayly (d. 1769) and Nathaniel Bayly, against whom the estate had earlier been shown apparently as agents.

  1. 'Nov. 4 [1792] At his estate near Old Harbour in Jamaica, [death of] Jeremiah Barton, one of the representatives for the parish of St Dorothy and for many years a colonel in the Kingston militia.'
