Edward James Reid

1785 - 4th May 1831


Son of John Reid of Saltponds, Middlesex, and his wife Frances nee Cuddon. Frances was co-heir of Thomas Cuddon (Master in Chancery 1765-1775) by his first wife Betty Paine. Frances died in Jamaica in 1811. John Reid had died before 28/02/1810.

Born in Jamaica in 1785. Married Caroline, daughter of Matthew Williames of Garthmill, co. Montgomery, in Jamaica 16/07/1805. Died in Jamaica 04/05/1831.

Edward James Reid and Caroline had the following children baptised in St Catherine: Elizabeth (1806), John (1808), Edward Matthew (1810), Caroline (1812).

Son Rev. John Reid was rector of Claughton, Lancashire, 1844-1868 and of Tregony cum Cuby, Cornwall, 1868-90.

Edward Matthew Fenwick Esquire of Burrow Hall, Westmorland, and Nunriding Hall, Cumberland, Barrister-at-law, J.P. for the counties of Lancaster, York and Westmorland, and Deputy Lieutenant for Lancaster; MP for Lancaster 1864-1866, was the second son of the late Edward James Reid, Esquire, of Jamaica, by Caroline his wife, daughter of Matthew Williames, Esquire, of Garthmill, county Montgomery, and assumed the surname Fenwick by royal license. Born 1812, married Sarah Fenwick Bowen in 1841, grand-daughter and heiress of the late Thomas Fenwick, Esquire, of Burrow Hall.
