Nephew and heir of James Moyes of Hermitage coffee estate in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. In 1837 living in Sunnybank, Falkland, Fife. Maule claimed his mother Janet had been left a one-fifth share in Hermitage.
Alexander Maule and Jannet Moyes in Raith had a son born the 9th and baptised in Abbotshall, Fife, the 15th of January 1775 named William. Witnesses William Anderson and John Heggie. William was their fifth child and third son but by the only son still living by 1837.
