Biography

MP for Portsmouth 1777-1783, son and co-residuary heir of Hon. William Gordon (q.v.). His father's estate appears to have passed to Sir William's nephew Thomas Gordon of Middleton Court (q.v.).

http://www.historyofparliamentonline.org/volume/1754-1790/member/gordon-sir-william-1726-98, which describe his father as 'merchant and planter', and says of Sir William Gordon that after his Grand Tour 'he probably went home to Jamaica, but after his father’s death disposed of his interest in the family plantations and mercantile concerns to his two brothers, and settled in London.'
