Biography

Shown as 'merchant and planter' in Jamaica by Smith and Mitchell and the son of Andrew Buchanan (1725-1783), a Virginia merchant in Glasgow, dying at Sherborne in 1826. Online genealogical sources show children of this George Buchanan d. 1826 as being born on Come Lee [sic] estate c. 1800 and on Wilton estate in Jamaica in the 1810s.

  1. Will of George Buchanan of Sherborne proved 30/10/1826. The will makes no reference to Jamaica, leaving £1000 to Buchanan's eldest son George, and dividing the rest between his two other sons Andrew and Robertson.
