Biography

Resident slave-owner in Jamaica, dying there in 1740.

  1. His daughter, Rebecca, of Westmoreland, married Thomas Reid of St Ann, at Westmoreland, 29/03/1743.

  2. Richard Haughton of Hanover, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1742. Slave-ownership at probate: 1432 of whom 737 were listed as male and 695 as female. 1 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: £46,328.61 Jamaican currency of which £38,537.00 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included £406.38 currency cash, £7,914.56 currency debts and £549.43 currency plate.

  3. The will of Richard Haughton was proved in Jamaica in 1741.
