  1. Dr Thomas Smith of St Vincent [sic] was the addressee of a letter dated 14 Nov. 1814 from John Letal, a provincial attorney in Britain to whom Smith's son was to be apprenticed.

Will take Smith's son as an articled clerk (has been asked to by Major Deshon a mutual friend). [The reference to Deshon cements the identification of the addressee with Dr Thomas Smith of Trinidad, who was co-owner of enslaved people with Major Deshon].
