Walter Ewer I

Biography

Brother and of John Ewer (q.v.), and probably co-owner with him of Bogg and Boscobell in St Ann Jamaica.

  1. Hendry (sic) Ure married Agnes Grahame, 29/03/1715 in Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland. They had seven children baptised in Kilsyth: Jean (1717), Margerat (sic, 1718), John (1720), Jean (1723), Agnes (1726), Barbara (1728) and Walter (1732). John and Walter both became slave-owners in St Ann, Jamaica, as did Margaret's son James Hay, John's children Walter II, Mary and John, and Barbara's son Alexander Kidston. Walter, baptised 21/09/1732 in Kilsyth to Henry Ure and Agnes Grahame in Tageston.

  2. Will of Walter Ewer merchant of Little Love Lane Aldermanbury proved16/11/1782. In the will, Walter Ewer identified his brother as John Ewer - to whom he left his moiety of their property in Little Love Lane - three of his nephews as James Hay (then in Jamaica), Henry Hay (then in Jamaica) and Alexander Kidston, and two others as Walter and John, the sons of his brother John. James and Henry were the son of his sister Margaret, married to William Hay and also identified in the will. He left his real estate in North America and Jamaica to Walter and John.
