Biography

Major Martin Blake, nephew of Patrick Blake of St Christopher (d. 1743). Under his will proved 16/10/1767 he left his plantation in Parham and Willoughby Bay Antigua (subject to an annuity of £200 p.a. to his eldest son John) to his second son Martin T[h]omlinson Blake for life and then to Martin Thomlinson Blake's heirs, failing whom then to his [the testator's] daughters Jane Blake and Sarah Town Blake. Given that Oliver shows his daughter Sarah Toun [sic] Blake marrying '...Masterson', and that the compensation for Blake's estate on Antigua was later paid to Countess Sarah Selina Masterson, it is reasonable to infer that Martin Blake's Antiguan estate was indeed that known as Blake's.
