Harriet Davis Burton of Hackney, jointly inherited Content plantation and c. 80 enslaved people in Jamaica.
A minor in 1817 when John Davis registered enslaved people on Content plantation in Jamaica as her guardian. Married James Burton by 1820. An absentee by at least 1825 (probably by 1820 when her husband employed William Oldaker as his agent).
In the census of 1841 at Downs Cottages (near Amherst Road) in Hackney with children James (age 15), Maria (15), Margaret (12) and Harriet (10), plus Martha Oldaker (11), John Oldaker (7) and 1 female servant. In the census of 1851 at 1 Downs Cottages, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, age 51, occupation 'Dividends from Railway[?]', born Jamaica. In the same household were her daughters Maria E, age 26, Margarett, age 22 and Harriet age 20 (all living off dividends and born in Hackney), her father-in-law George Burton, age 82, retired shipbroker, born in Hull, and 1 female servant. At the same address in 1861 with her daughter Harriet, a music teacher, Sophia Faunthroy, a boarder, and 1 female servant.
