Biography

  1. Will of Robert Cliff merchant and planter of Demerary proved 12/02/1818. In the will, made in 1799, he left much of his property to his brother Joseph Cliff (q.v.). His will was found in 1803 by Thomas Becket of Nantwich in a writing desk of Joseph Cliff, who Becket said had taken on the management of Robert's estate. Robert left monetary legacies to his father Thomas Cliff and to his siblings; the family were of Broomhall, Nantwich in Cheshire.

  2. In 1816, an advertisement was placed for the creditors of Robert Cliffe, a native of Broomhall in the parish of Wrenbury in Cheshire, 'who had died on the high seas in the month of August 1799' and late residing on the plantations of Columbia in Demerara and on Britannia in the colony of Berbice.
