Biography

Natural daughter of Elizabeth Junor, a "free coloured woman", and James Hay, owner of several estates in Grenada, who died at Chelsea in 1819. Bequeathed £10,000 in her father's will.

  1. Of St Luke's, Chelsea, when she married Charles Cobb Young there on 12/08/1820. Of Hans Place for the baptism of their son Charles Stewart Young in 1825, daughter Georgina Elizabeth Young in 1827 and Margaret Lindsay Young in 1835. Charles Cobb Young's address was given as Hans Place, Chelsea, at his burial 15/12/1838 in St Luke's and the widowed Elizabeth Young was living there with her 3 children and 2 female servants in 1841.

  2. Living at 127 Sloane Street, Chelsea, in the census of 1851 with brother George G. Hay, sisters Sarah, Charlotte and Bridget Hay, son Charles S. Young and daughters Georgina E. and Margaret L. Young, cousin Ann Robertson and 3 female servants. At the same address and with the same household members in 1861. Born in the West Indies, her birth date is uncertain; she was listed as age 36 in 1841, age 53 in 1851 and 62 in 1861.
