Biography

Daughter of Daniel Byam Mathew (q.v.) who in 1815 placed the North Sound estate in trust as part of her marriage settlement with William Thomas Roe. The trustees sold the estate and the enslaved people on it the following year. Mary Elizabeth Roe also counterclaimed unsuccessfully as an annuitant on the Pennitenny estate on St Kitts.

  1. In the will of Mary Elizabeth Roe widow of Withdean Sussex and of Weymouth Street proved 31/08/1842, she left her property in Australia, the West Indies and Britain after monetary legacies to Elizabeth Jones of Steeple Aston in Leicestershire.
